Some record prices for natural histor.y books were realised at Messrs Stevens' auction rooms in Covent Garden, when the library of Mr P. Crowley, of Waddon House, Croydon, came under the hammer. The “Biologia Central! Americana,” in 35 volumes, fetched .£9O; Lord Lifford’s “British Birds.’’ in seven volumes, gold for £63; and ‘‘The Ibis,’’ 42 volumes, for £75. The report of the Comptroller and Auditor-General upon the accounts of the Boyal Army Clothing Factory for the year 1899-1300 stales that in consequence of the war there was a considerable increase in the amount of work performed by the factory. The value of clothing produced during the financial year amounted to I £363.616, as compared with .£291,224 in 1838-99.
