Gordon Sprigg, Premier of Cape Colony, boiling to break down racial animosity, is studying impartially, irrespective of partv considerations, the development of the colony. The Mon T. W. Fifteen waggons full of men and women from Krmclo have been brought to Standerton, including Dr Everard. At a great meeting of the Mafoking Branch of the South African League a resolution was passed recommending the ■suspension of tho Constitution and the suppression of the Afrikander Bond. Holy-H.nl chiuson, Governor of Cape Colony, who has concluded a tour of six towns in the western district of Cape Colony, received an encouraging reception from tho Dutch. The Capetown correspondent of “Tho Times” says the extremists of both parties woidu rather abolish free institutions than see their opponents in office, but the situation is in no wise unpromising. A Dutch clergyman, now residing at Aberdeen, has written to the press, praising the humane treatment of tho Boor women and children at Port Elizabeth. Colonel Bullock’s column conveyed the residents of Ermelo to Standerton. Mrs Botha is going to Europe at her husband’s request. She will se© Mr Kruger, and return to the Transvaal in July. A correspondent complains that though thirty-six letters have been posted to a member of tho Sixth Contingent in South Africa, th 0 trooper in question had not seen on 0 of them at tho time- of writing his last letter which was received in Wellington a few days ago. The Premier has received a cablegram from Capetown stating that Sergeant Mehrtens, of Rangiora, a member of the Sixth Contingent, who has been ill, is sliwuclv better, and that Trooper Stack, of Pahautanui, is progressing favourably. Charles Morris, of Kitchener’s Scouts, whose next of kin is Mrs S. Morris, of Morningside, Auckland, was slightly wounded on the Ist in-
