DRAINING THE LAKE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Monday, 4 p.itJ* At the monthly meeting of the Fea* thcrston Road Board on Saturday, th« treasurer’s statement showed an overdraft at the bank of £1351. It was decided to levy a rate of five-eighths of a penny in the pound for the ensuing year. A lengthy report from the engineer on the advisability of procuring up-to-dnta road machinery was held over for future consideration.
At a meeting of the South Wairarapa River -.card on Saturday, Mr Lunglands’ scheme lor draining the AVairarapa Lake and straightening the Rnam-a-hanga river was discussed, and it was decided to convene a meeting of the settlers interested at an early date and got Mr Langiands to attend and place tha matter before them.
