PEESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, May 26. A woman named Elizabeth Moore, aged twenty-eight, living with William Eastwick, a cabman, at Sydenham, was found dead in the house yesterday afternoon. Eastwick left home in the morning, and on -returning found the woman dead in a pool of blood. Examination showed that death was caused by bleeding from tho womb. An inquest is to bo hold. AUCKLAND. May 25. Tho trial of Walter Lock, alias Samuel Marshall, on a charge of stealing L2d3, the property of the Bank of New Zealand, concluded to-day. Accused gave evidence on his own behalf. He denied tho crime attributed to him, and said ho was never in the Bank of New Zealand in his life. On Tuesday, April 30th, the date of tho J alleged oli'ence, lie was at Chelsea, Norchcote and Birkenhead selling tea. Ho had not possessed £SO during tho past two years, and had not banked such a sum in the name of Samuel Marshall or any other name. His Honor asked -the prisoner what his object was in going under so many different names. Accused declined to answer this question. Duncan McLeod, of_ Birkenhead, deposed that on April 30th ho fought a packet of tea from prisoner. j.his was between 11.30 a.m. and noon (the time the theft was alleged to have been committed). Sarah Pugh deposed that about midday on Tuesday, April 30th, accused came to her place at Birkenhead and sold her some tea. Several other witnesses were also examined for the defence to J p rov ’o an alibi. After a short retirement, the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty. “ DUNEDIN, May 25.

Mr J Colin McKenzie Gordon, Registrar of the Supremo Court and Sheriff, died early this morning, aged seventytwo. Ho was about town till the last day or two. Deceased, who was an elder and session clerk of Knox Church, was much respected, and his death is keenly felt.
