NATIVE SCHOOLS
Special to the “Times.'’ . NAPIER, April 3., At the sitting of the General Synod of New Zealand, held at .Napier recently, the proposal to raise .£IO,OOO to erect a school for Maori girls at Auckland, as a memorial to Queen Victoria, was criticised by some of the clergy in ,a. somewhat sceptical manner. It is not quite known what Anglican Church folk are doing elsewhere, but a few enthusiasts in Hawke’s Bay arc working very hard in the matter, and up to the present £350 has been subscribed, mostly in the country districts. The peeople here know the really useful work that is being done at the Hukarere Maori Girls School and at the T© Ante Boys School. They feel that there is.ample scop© in Auckland for a similar institution for the benefit of young native girls. '
