' PROPOSED 'CREATION OF AN ; AUSTRALIAN PRINCE. i . LONDON, April 2. ! The “Standard” states that prior to the commencement of the voyage’ of the , : Duke of CornualJ ami York a suggesi tion from representative colonial quarters was submitted to the King to create the Duke’ Prince of Australia. Ministers, however, considered that if titular dignities were conferred on the: colonies Canada had the first claim. The suggest ion is now made that Prince Edward, eldest son of. the Duke, should be created Prince of Canada, and that Albert, his second son, should be created Prince of Australia. THE RECEPTION IN WELLINGTON. At a conference yesterday of representatives of local bodies, it was explained that tho Harbour Board proposed to decorate the outer too and the two sides of the wharf, and that tho Duke and Duchess of Cornwall would be received by the Mayor on behalf of the citizens in front of the Post Office. Air Booth said that though only one address would be replied to—that presented by the Mayor—the' Harbour Board intended to send an address, which they hoped would bo accepted probably as an interesting work of art. Tho wood, it was proposed, would bo from Captain Conk's ship Endeavour. Electricity would he freely used by the Board to make a display on tho buildings fronting the harbour, and there would be a display of fireworks at night. Messrs Kirk and Frost stated that Petone and Melrose boroughs would do •heir share in whatever was required, hut that nothing could be done until tho elections were over. -Mr Browne said that the HiitY County Council would decorate- and illuminate their l uihhng on Lambton quay, but bad not decided vd at further part they would take in the demonstration. It was agreed that the Pctono and Melrose boroughs should be empowered to erect an arch, either by themselves or jointly yith other local bodies. Mr Wilford suggested that a coal arch and a wood arch, similar to those in the Commonwealth celebrations, should ha erected by the merchants. The Mayor announced that tho route of the procession had not yet been settled. It had to bo submitted to his Excellency tho Governor, by whom it would he settled. Therefore, no discussion could taka place upon it at the present mooting. Tho Citizens’ Committee was to meet ou the following day, and would communicate . with tho representatives! of the local bodies and suggest what they should dc.

Acting on the Premier’s, suggestion, the Napier. Borough Council has approved of- Mr Soddon’s ■ proposal that Hawke’s Bay should erect an arch in Wellington on the occasion of the Duke of Cornwall’s. visit.' The Mayor and chairman'of the Public Works, Committen will meet the representatives of the other local bodies in the district,should they be agreeable to the proposal. It was stated; that. Wpb'dvillo, Dannevirke, Hastings, Waipawa, Wairba and the other towns in , the , district would be much better pleased with one arch for the whole of Hawke’s Bay than if Napier alone were represented. A suggestion by a'Councillor that the women of New Zealand should bo represented by an arch typical of the female franciiise is to be* forwarded to tho Premier. . ~'i

Mr Hurst-Seager, who, designed the street decorations for the Jubilee celebrations, has submitted a scheme of decoration in' connection with the Royal visit. This - provides for four arches to be decked with redy.gre’cni yellow and purple, and lints of colours, also stretch from, arch to'arch. 1 : 't,' Coker’s 2 ; Hotel has 'been secured for the residence of the Duke and Duchess during their visit. CHRISTCHURCH, April 3.

In consequence of 'representations made from Lyttelton with regard to tho Royal visit, • the Premier states that the Governor has consented: to; arrange that the Duke and Duchess shall drive from the wharf to the Lyttelton railway station, where tho Mayor, and Chairman of the Harbour Board will bo presented to them.

The Nelson School Committee has decided to aslc the Government, through the Education Board, to provide free passage to -Wellington for 200 school children on the occasion of the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall.
