COMMISSIONS FOR- COLONIALS
i His Excellency the Governor has re. ceivod the following letter from Earl Roberts, which,-speaks for itself; “Wav Office, London, loth February, 1961’.—Dear Lord Ranfmly—My attoii. tion has been directed to-an article in thes ‘Hawke's Bay Herald 1 dated il ltli December, 1900, in which criticisms arc made as to the delay which has occurred in gazetting the Now Zealand officers to their Imperial commissions. I much regret to say that these delays pro veil unavoidable, owing to the groat difficulties experienced in our being assured that each candidate was lolly qualified. The matter was finally se*;- ■ tied, on tlio 4th January, when Ujc names of all these officers appeared iti : the London ‘ Gazette,’ and in order to make sure that uo one suffered, from the delay, the dlato of commissions was antedated to 19th May, 1900. Please give what publicity you .like to these -facts, and believe me, very truly yours (signed) Roberts.”
