Tho Customs returns for yesterday amounted to £1561 5s 4d. W. and R. Flctchdr, Limited, King street, Smithfield, London, report under date December 21st on the frozen meat market; —New Zealand mutton — Light arrivals and moderate shipments afloat have influenced holders in. putting smaller numbers on the market, which have, however, been ample for the trade. Dkmand for frozen mutton is, as usual at this time of the year, exceedingly quiet, and although expected to be more active after Christmas, it is quite probable that presetit rates will have a deterrent effect upon sales. New Zealand ln.mli—Realisation at this period is naturally slow, but owing to the limited number available, prices are we 11 maintained. As very few are being sold, however, quotations must be taken as nominal'. JOHNSONVILLE, January 24. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., in conjunction with Messrs Abraham and Williams, report on their Johnsonvillo sale : —Fat cattle, limited supply, proved equal to' requirements. The quality generally was good. Ox beef made 20s to ,22s the lOOlbs, prices ranging from £8 2s 6d to £9 ss. For lot cows tho inquiry was weak; 'medium sorts made £5 to £5 ss. A small entry of fat sheep but of good weight and quality were on a par with last week’s prices. Tho demand, however, was hardly as keen ; prime ewes, 13s 6d to 14s; extra, 15s 6d; light ewes, 12s.
