LIVE STOCK SALES. CHRISTCHURCH, January 23. At Addington to-day 2523 fat sheep, 3000 fat lambs, 14,102 store sheep, 219 cattle and 381 pigs were yarded. The 133 head of fat cattle, mostly poor sorts, ipet a better market at 22s to 25s per 1001 b, good to prime beef 18s to 21s. Best steers £8 to £lO, others £8 17s 6d to £7 10s; beat heifera £7 to £B, others £5 17s 6d to £6 10s; best cows £7 to £B, others £5 to £6 10s. The fat sheep were a mixed yarding. There were some good lines of wethers and many others not finished; a good supply of ewes, but freezers were not anxious to secure sheep. Freezing wethers 18s to 20s, lighter 16s 9d to 17s 6d; best ewes 16a to 17s-9d, others 14s to 15s 6d. Fat lambs—The quality was not quite so good all round, but late rates were maintained. About 2500 were taken for freezing at 15s 3d to 16s lOd for best, 11s to 15s for lighter, and 13s 2d for unfinished. The store sheep were mostly in large lings of wethers or lambs. The demand was scarcely so good and several lines of both were passed, not reaching reserves. Forward wethers 17s 8d to 18s 7d, fair IGs lid to 17s 6d, small 14s Gd to 15s Gd; forward lambs 13s 9d to 14s Id, secondary 12s 9d to 13s 7d, small 9s lid to 11s 3d; good young ewes 16s lOd to 17s 4d, aged 14s 3d to 15s 3d, ewes and lambs all counted 10s 83. Pigs—Good quality were short in supply with a much, better market. Baconers 35s to 5Gs Gd, -porkers 23s to 335, both equal to 4tl per lb; stores 13s to 22s 6d, suckers and weaners 7s to 10s Gd. DUNEDIN, January 23. At Burnside stock market best bullocks i brought £8 15s to £9 15s, good £7 10s to ,C 8 10s; best cows and heifers £6 10s to £7 15s, good £5 5s to £6 ss. Sheep—l93s‘wero penned. Bidding was very slow and prices-fell away , badly. Wethers show a drop of Is to Is 6(1, ewes 3s to 3s; best wethers 18s to 19s, a few extra up to 19s 9d; best ewes IGs to 17s, extra up to 18s. Lambs—747 penned, and bidding was keen. There was an advance on last week’s rates. Best 13s to 15s, extra to 15s G<l. Pigs—Suckers 7s 6d to 10s Gd, porkers 23s to 30s, baconers 32s to 455.
