MINING NEWS.

The statutory meeting of the shareholders .of the Kapai Gold Dredging Company was held a,t the registered offices of the company. No. 5, Paijama street, on Tuesday, when there was a large number of shareholders represented. A balance-sheet was submitted to the meeting, which showed that the financial position of the company was in a satisfactory condition. The following directors were elected 0y ballot:— Mackenzie, Messrs Fear, CederhoJin, Harris, Crichton. Messrs Hood ana Stace, of Greymoutty, were appointed an advisory board to the company’. -Ur Kember was appointed auditor, and Air Payne engineer for the company. u was decided to hold* the annual meeton the second Friday in Februuarv, 1902. and to list the company on the Dunedin Exchange. The statement of the affairs of the Hartley and Riley Beach Dredging Company as at the 31st December last, prepared in accordance with the Alining Companies Act, 1894, forms an interesting document. The company was registered on tint 14th July, 1897. The nominal capital is £7OOO, the amount ef capital subscribed being £6500, while the amount of capital actually paid up in casli is 416300. The capital is divided into 7000 shares, of which 6500 have been allotted, being held by 362 shareholders. At the time of registration there were 73 shareholders. The quantity of -gold produced last year was 7692cz 3dwt 7gr, valued at £29,766 Vs 7d, a.nd the quantity produced .since regis.tration was 17,3880 z, valued at £67,348.
