PB.ES3 ASSOCIATION. WAIMATE, November 15. Great interest was taken in the election of Borough Councillors to-day. Five Councillors resigned their seats because the Mayor printed a new by-law against the wish of the majority of the Council. On the Mayor (Dr Barclay,' refusing to put to the Council a vote of censure on himself for so doing, five Councillors resigned. They all stood for re-election, as well as live others, and all the old Councilors were again returned. The voting was as follows; —Coltman, 17G; Cameron, 171; Jones, 170; Inkster, 156; Mann, 145; Scott, 137; Freeman, 130; Evans, 113; Dash. 109: Butcher, 90. CHRISTCHURCH, November 15. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming .Association, hold to-ngjxt, the sub-conirattee appointed to deal with the question of amalgamation with the Auckland association reported that the proposals made in a letter'from Mr R. St. Clair, asking whether the association would assent to registration. and also to an alteration of the general headquarters, had been agreed to. The sub-committee’s action was approved. The Now Zealand championships for the season were allotted to the Canterbury clubs. Efforts will be made to Havo them decided during the first week in January. The first of the competitions m connection with the Home Industries section, carried out to-day, were an unqualified success. The competitions include cookery, domestic work and floral displays. The entries in the cooking and sweetmeat classes number 245; domestic classes attracted a dozen competitors ; while there were eighty-four floral and table decorations.
