(From Our Own Correspondent.) At last the golden letters denoting “Tho Colonial Bank of New Zealand'’ have disappeared from the top'.of the budding used in former days.. In their place has appeared “Public Library.'’ Outside the building has been re-paint-ed, while inside the whole structure has been renovated. The work has been carried out by -Mr Turner in a very creditable manner. The work of making stands for newspapers and other furnishings are also in hand. Applications for the position of librarian are to he advertised for at once, and so soon’ as arrangements are completed for the supply of newspapers and periodicals, | wo shall have what we should-have had’ years ago—a public library and reading-! room.

Club here. ,Mr Scott has been elected ‘ temporary secretary, and a committee | consisting of Messrs Whalley,, Copeland, j Wyldc, Birkcnsliaw, Goodgor, Jameson | and Broad" is to carry out the necessary preliminary arrangements.' At the meeting of ths Wanganui Presbyter}-, called, to consider the call Irom St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the same was laid on the table, and sustained by the unanimous yote of the Presbytery, and placed in the Rev J. Chisholm’s hands. The Presbytery decided that the induction, should 1 ' take place on the 29th inst., the Rev J. Ross being appointed to preach and preside, the Uev R. M. Ryburn to address tho minister, and the Rev C. Murray the people. A protest and appeal to the General Assembly was handed in, but it was resolved unanimously to treat it as frivolous. Further donations in aid of tho prize fund of the .A. and P. Association have been collected in the district by m-in-ters of tho committee, and the fund now stands at £SOO. There are more districts yet to be canvassed. A meeting of persons interested in forming a Congregational Church here was held on Wednesday evening. The Rev Reed Glasson, of Wellington, provided, and gave a full exposition of the principles and beliefs of Congregationalism. Plans of tho church proposed to be erected were submitted for approval, and a committee appointed to further deal with them.
