KITCHENER'S ES CA PE
NARROW ESCAPE OF CAPTURE. LONDON, June 21. The srene of Lord Kitchener’s narrow escape from capture- by the Roors on Thursday last was the Kopjes railway siding, forty miles-, north of TCroonstad, and some three milos .south of Leeuw Spruit. Where occurred on the same day the attack on Ihe reconstruction train that resulted in mo capture of fifty British soldiers.
It, appears that General De Wet, at the head oi : a force of nine hundred Boers, got into dose proximity to the sleeping err in waieh the Chief-of-Staif was resting. 'rho commando wasi actually Bringing its rifles and big guns to bear upon tho carriage when Lord Kitchener, having become aware of his danger, saddled up and galloped to the Rbenoster River, about five miles to the southward, where thirteen hundred British troops were encamped.
