FRIDAY. JUNE 22. (Before Mr ff. R. Haselden, S.M.) Elizabeth Campbell sought a, separation and maintenance order against her husband, Norman Campbell (a, wharf labourer'). The order for separation was'- : made, -the wife being allowed Mm custody of »Mio children, an allowance- of ill per week for their maintenance being made. Win. Geo. Ashby, who was arrested on warrant, from Auckland, was charged with haring deserted his wife. The accused made a statement to the .Bcnbil that he had secured rcmnncraUve work in 'Wellington, and was willing to devote a part of his earnings to .liquidating the arrears. His Worship decided to remainl the case for a week, and instructed the- Sub-In-spector to forward the authorities in Auckland particulars of, the case. Accused was allowed his liberty on entering info his own’ recognisances. Sub-Inspector Mitchell mentioned the case of Catherine Menace,’, who was on Wednesday before, the Court;- on a charge of stealing clothing. The case was remanded then in order that the police might make inquiries as to whether admission to a Horae could bo ■gained for her. The Sub-Inspector said that two gentlemen of Mm city had procured admission to the Mrod:den Home at Christchurch for fh" accused, and his Worship discharged her on the understanding that she should go into that place.
