REMUNERATION OF THE DELE-

(Received June 21, 9.45 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 21.

In the Legislative Assembly Sir William Lyne (Premier of New South Wales) stated that the Hon E. Barton, the colony’s representative on the federal delegation, received £IOOO for his sendees and a free passage to London. Mr Barton had, however, asked for more owing to his stay in London having been longer than was anticipated. The other colonies had granted their delegates an additional £SOO.

SYDNEY, June 21. Considerable opposition was shown by members to Sir William I,y lie’s proposal to place an extra £ou„ on the estimates to cover Mr Barton’s expenses. The Premier explained that mr Barton had expected to be only six weeks in London, but had already been there for fourteen weeks.

A resolution was submitted by Sir William favouring the acceptance of the compromise arrived at in London with regard to the Commonwealth Bill. The Assembly is now discussing the matter.
