The Bon. H. J. Miller, Speaker of the Legislative Council, has received a cable message from his soil; Trooper G. R. Roberts’s occupation of Pretoria. " He states that though ho had suffered during his captivity from lack of rations, and had
developed enteric fever, ho is hopeful of making a speedy recovery. On. April 22nd, Sir Alfred Milner, Governor of Cape Colony and High Commissioner of British South -Africa, received an address to the Queen present - ed on behalf of ',t'ho Loyal Women’s Guild of South Africa. Addressing the deputation Sir Afford Milner said that the latest political rod herring was an at tempt to confuse the minds of the people as to the real issue of the struggle which was, whether South Africa was to he inside or outside the Empire. Ho hoped thero would be no distinction in loyalty between people born at the Cape and those coming from outside. Ho disclaimed the idea that criticism of himself implied disloyalty and deprecated tho mania, of suspicion whch was at the present moment abroad in tho land and which had in several cases resulted in the ostracism of loyal handies. .
