AN ORLEANS PEINCE'. - T ■■ LONDON/.luiife’ 19. The death is announced of (he Priiico de JoinviUe.The deceased Prince, a son of the late Louis-Philippe,. King of Franco, was bom at Neuilly in 1818. Soon after his father’s accession to the' throne in 1830, he began to study for-the navy, and was sent to sea. at the age of thirteen..’ Ho devoted himself- almost entirely to his profession, in which he had a brilliant career. ,His first command -was of the. corvette Creole, and joining the fleet of Admiral oaudin, he was entrusted with a. difficult' mission in Mexico. The' Creole took a prominent part in the bombardment of St. Juan d’Ulloa, - and at Vera Cruz. (he Prince, at the head, of a storming party, was the first to 'enter the gates, under a heavy fire. In 1841 he was selected to command the trigate La Belle Pbule, charged with conveying to Franco the remains of the great Napoleon from St. Helena... In the war with Morocco he commanded a squadron with which ho bombarded Tangiers, 1 and took Mogador. After this expedition he was raised to the rank-of ViceAdmiral. , On the overthrow; of the constitutional Government in 1848, the Prince sought refuge in England. : The Law of Exile having been abrogated after the downfall of the ■ Napoleonic dynasty, the Prince rturned to Franco, and was: elected to the National Assembly, where' lie occupied! a seat for five years. He remained on the books of the navy till the, members , of the former reigning houses in France were in 1886 expclledl from public'<6iiipld;vraents. The French navy was-indebted to the Prince for many services, particularly for, the manner in which ho helped, to solve the great question of the adaptation-of . steam to vessels of war. He married at Rio do Janeiro in 1843 Donpa Franeisca do Braganza, sister of Don Pedro 11,,- -Emperor of Brazil.
