The Hawera Chamber of Commerce has received the following reply from the Postal Department in answ v er to its requests : “ That telephonic communication ‘between Patea and Hawera would be established if six subscribers were obtained ' in Patea to a branch' exchange there.” “That the hours of the local Telephone Exchange will be extended to TO p.m. as soon as- there are 1 • 100 subscribers” (there are now 90 subscribers). lam informed that the Patea Chamber of Commerce has found no difficulty in obtaining six subscribers to the Hawera-Patea lino, so that in a very 'diorfc time from now these two places Should be connected by telephone. , Owing to tho-delay in.arrival bf pipes, work in connection with the waterworks had, to be suspended last week. < However,. a; further supply of pipes has now' been received, and a fresh start will.be made this week. , Wo ace. enjoying a spell of the most beautiful weather, not a cloud having .been visible since last Saturday.
