HOSPITAL AFFAIRS.
DOCTORS AND POST MORTEMS. PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board the matter of holding post-mortem examinations at the hospital without the consent of relatives was discussed. Under the present system it was stated that the doctors had carte blanche, and the consequence was an altogether excessive number of post-mortem examinations. The records of last year showed that out of 116 deaths at the hospital, there were 63 post-mortem operations. In private practice the proportion of the postihortents is not one in twenty deaths. The result would be that people would shun the hospital unless the practice was discouraged. . It was eventually agreed to obtain information from the hospitals in the South and in Australia as to the custom in regard to post-mortems. The whole matter was adjourned'for a month.
