GERMANY AND SAMOA.

SYDNEY, January 24. A letter received here from a prominent Samoan merchant states that the natives of Apia are opposed to the rule of Germany, which Power the Island was made over to by the recent Anglo-Gcr-man-American treaty. Tho main trouble, adds the writer, will be to keep the Matqafa people from fighting. Already the Mataafas are trying to get the Malietoans to join them and make the Samoans one people under a Government of their own. The natives are stated to have plenty of rifles and ammunition, and to be still in the mood for fighting, while the genera! cry is “ Samoa for the Samoans.'’ Many are leaving- for Tonga, Fiji and other places.
