INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES.
EEESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The Court of Arbitration was engaged all tins morning hearing legal, argument on the objection raised by the employers that the grocery trade did not come within the scope of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act. To-morrow the builders’ dispute will be taken. The president stated that he would, if possible, make an announcement with regard to the grocers’ case to-morrow morning. DUNEDIN, Monday. The carpenters’ and _ joiners’ dispute was before the Conciliation - Board today. The Amalgamated Society of Corpenters and Joiners asked for a week of forty-four hours; pay at the rate of Is ltd per hour; overtime, time and a half;. preference to unionists, etc. Mr Reid and Mr Gray objected to being made parties, and quoted a decision of Justice Edwards in the engineering dispute in Christchurch. The Board overruled the objection at that stage; also a request from Thomson, Bridget and Go. to exclude them in accordance with a decision in Auckland. After hearing the statement of each side, the Board adjourned to 'Wednesday to give its decision.
