Union at present in session here;- while regretting that war should be necessary in South Africa, has passed -a resolution expressing hope that the result may bo the extension of popular liberty and the uplifting of the native races. v-v f MELBOURNE, Friday. The Council of the Churches has fixed Sunday next as a day .of prayer for the safety of the Australian troops ea route! for the Transvaal. .
