The London correspondent of a Melbourne 'contemporary states that ViceAdmiral Lord Charles Scott. K.C.8., who - formerly commanded on the Australian station, and who married Mies Ada Ryan, daughter of Mr Charles Rva-n, of Ryan ‘ and Hammond, Melbourne, has been promoted to the rank of admiral.
A venerable native named Tamati Hanimana, an old resident- of Mokoia Island, iu Lake Rotorua, died recently at tho Purewa mission station, near Pitongia, Waikato, where he was visiting his son, the Rev T.iimona- Hapimana. The “Hawke’s Bav Herald” says the cld man was a fine specimen of the past o-enoration of Maoris, and was well acouaiuted with the .ancient loro and mythology of his people.
