PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE.
The Public Works Committee of the City Council last night decided to recommend: —(1) That an application from Messrs George and Kersley to he allowed to erect a verandah he referred to the By-laws Committee with instructions to consult the City Engineer, and bring in some regulation in connection with the erection of verandahs; (2) that C. R. Neave’s application lor -a provisional plumber’s license lie refused ; (3) that estimates be prepared for the formation of Arney street, the Council to do the work if the petitioners find the money; (4) that the .City Engineer report on an application for the widening of Grant road; (o) that consideration of a petition from residents in the vicinity of the Bolleston street brickyards threatening to approach the Supreme Court with a view to forcing the Council to perform its duty as a Board of Health and abolish the smokenuisance in that locality, be held over for a fortnight; (G) that Airs Capper’s application to he allowed to erect three houses in Brougham street be acceded to; ("> that the Public Works Department he asked to at once bring into effect conditions 1,2, 3 and 4of the agreement in reference to the shelter sheds, and that a proposal of the department to waive the necessity of removing the buildings within twelve months he not insisted on: (8) that permission be given to the Tramway Company to lay down crossings to facilitate the running of a five-minute service.
