At p. meeting of the committee f the Auckland Horticultural Society a vote of thanks was accorded to the Countess of Ranfurly for her donation of four medals to be competed for by children at the forthcoming show. The medals are to be given for the four best gardens, not less than 36 and not more than 144 square feet in area. Two of the medals are for girls under 16 and 12, and two for boys. A reference of an industrial dispu'e between the New Zealand Federal od Tailoresses and Other Clothing Trade Employees’ Union and the New la’nd Clothing Manufacturers’ Association was filed to-day with the Clert- of Awards of the Board of Conciliation CURIOUS FORGERY CASE. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A curious case of forgery was heard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. , Elizabeth Gwatkins was charged with having on April 20th, 1899, at Christchurch, forged a post office order foi £3 13s Cd. .The case for the prosecution was that the accused had signed the name of Mary Barker to a, post office order made dub in favour of a person of that name, and had cashed the order and deposited the amount in the Savings Bank to the credit of Mary Barker. The husband of Mrs Barker wished to send his wife money from Snringfield to where she resided in Wanganui. He sent a letter to Mrs Gwatkins, who was residing in Christchurch. asking her if she would cash the money order and deposit the amount in the bank in Mrs Barker’s name. ' John Barker was then charged with having on the 9th April procured Elizabeth Ann Gwatkins to forge a post office order for £3 13s. Both cases were adjourned till Saturday.
