The latter, curiously enough, declares "consumpt ■ to he a Scotticism. The' word is a handy one for writers on economic subjects, as it is a synonym for “the tota. amount consumed,” whereas “consumption” has a looser and more general meaning.—Editor “N.Z. Times.”]
