THE PHOTOGRAPHER’S ART.

Messrs'-Wr-igglesworth-and Binns are to be congratulated on the excellent display.; of .photographs' riow appearing _ in their vestibule. In addition, to the oldeifashioned Matt-ppal type (of which Messrs WrigglesWrirth and Bums are the,inventors)- and - ■‘glazed' photographs, there is a fine collection -Of artist-finished, bromide cabiqots and semi-cabinets. The beautiful finish of . the artist-finished bromidoo is gained by calling;in the aid of the artist’s brush to correct such faults as the operator and retoucher when dealing with the negative were, from various circum‘stances, unable to avoid or modify. Brushwork; therefore, comes as a great help, supplementing the work of . both these ‘operators. Every I ‘individual picture or this class that-has passed-through the hands of the artist is a model of artistic 'beauty- Several of the improved examples ' ;of the' photographer s art are - rioV exhibited ~in this ‘ vestibule/ “ There is' a particularly hue sepia-tefied, 1 bromide enlargement ,ot. -.a man’s'Head and .bust—which, is as tar removed from the, ordinary photograph.as the ordinary photograph’ was : removed fromthe daguerrbotype; There are several fine grdups’in VaHbus styles', all-display-ing the same unique finish The lighting, posirig arid-modellings"of‘these are excellent examples, of. artistic skill. '. A case of children’s photographs also calls for special 'mention. ■ TVhat is to. be.,chiefly observed in this photographic display is the.delicate nature of.the light.and shading’impressedon all the work. All those 'who -delight in beautiful. Objects/ and all those interested in photography should ■ lose no opportunity of viewing this collection. New-Zealand photography is said to rival that of the whole world, and if individual energy and talent’has had anything to do-with it, some share of the colony’s fame in this direction ought to be credited; to Messrs Wrigglesworth and Binns.
