THE AUSTRALIANS’ TOUR. SOUTH OF ENGLAND v. AUS- . TRALIA. A DESCRIPTION OF THE PLAY. LONDON, Tuesday. The cnicket match South of England v. Australians Vas begun at the Cry?tal Palace grounds to-day. The weather was, bright and sunny, and the wicket fast. Alterations in both teams were made at the last moment. Hearne was unable to play tor South of England, and Brockwell was put on in his stead. Laver was chosen by’ the Australians’ selection committee to play instead of Howell, who was in the team originally picked. Grace, who captained the Englishmen, woif’ the toss, ancl elected to .hat, Jones and Noble taking up the Jitt3Tlie first wicket fell for 11 runs and the second for 20. Brockwell was neatly taken by Trumble in the slips. McLeod took up the bowling at 43 and Trumble at 55, Jones going on again at 69 at the other end. Fry played a brilliant innings. The seventh wicket fell for 166 runs, the eighth for 1/4, and the ninth foil 207. Fry, who was ultimately caught in the slips, battl’d for two hours, his score including ten hits for four. (Received May 9, 10 p.m.)LONDON, Tuesday. Laver fielded magnificently at point. Lockwood earned his'bat out for 41 runs. He was in forty minutes. No exception was taken to Jones’s delivery, which at times bumped dangerously.
