MORE LARD FOB SETTLEMENT.
LARGE NORTHERN ESTATE OFFERED.
PRESS ASSOCIATION. . AUCKLAND, Tuesday. It is stated that the trustees of the Monavale Estate (17,000 acres), Cambridge, have offered the property to the Government to be dealt with .under the Lands for Settlement Act. Considerable interest is felt in the matter here, and a petition to the Government for the purchase of the estate is being circulated by the Mayor, and is very extensively signed. Practical faimers say the price at which the estate is offered will practically ensure the successful settlement. Last week Mr F. Lawry, M.11.K., made a careful inspection of the estate, and has sent his report to the Government. Mr Lawry is admittedly a good judge of pastoial country, and no doubt his report will have due influence with, the Government and the Land Purchase Board. , , . ■ ' , It is understood that the report is or the most favourable character, and that the drained swamp land is equal for dairy purposes to anything Air Lawry had seen in the colony. ,
