SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ELECTIONS.
UNWONTED INTEREST IN THE POLLING. A LABOUR CANDIDATE’S TRIUMPH. SUCCESS OF FEDERATION VOTE. (Received May 1, 1.5 a.m.) . ADELAIDE, Sunday. The Referendum votes on the Commonwealth Bill and the Household Suffrage for the Legislative Council were taken in conjunction with the general elections throughout the colony ; and lent unwonted interest to the voting. Very few returns are yet complete; but the personnel of the metropolitan representation is practically unchanged. The Hon C. C. Kingston, Premier and Attorney-General, has been elected for West Adelaide, though Mr Batchelor, the labour candidate, headed the poll. The figures to hand so far indicate that the majorities are about six to one in favour of the Commonwealth Bill, and two to one in favour of extending the Legislative Council suffrage to householders. [Mr E. L. Batchelor and the Premier were in the last Parliament the representatives of West Adelaide.]
