The Hon Mr Hall-Jones will leave fur Timaru to-day.
Captain, Russell arrived in Wellington by the Napier-Wellington mail train last evening.
Mr William T. Wood has been appointed a trustee of Palmerston North cemetery’, vice Mr G. M. Snelson, resigned.
The Hon J. G. Ward left Invercargill yesterday for Wellington, en route for Great Britain. Mr Ward will be away about five months. This week’s “Gazette” contains notice of the appointment of Mr R. F. Lynch to be chief clerk m the Colonial Secretary’s Department, vice Mr R. H. Qovett, retired. The Hon Mr Best and Mr Trenwith, of Victoria, will go south by the Rotoniahana to-day for the purpose of visiting the Cheviot, Waikakahi, Ardgowan and other estates resumed by the Crown, and also to inspect the various branches ot the Labour Department in that part ot the colony. They will probably be ,accompanied by Mr J. Mackay, Chief Cleik of the Labour Department,
