The Government has made substantial concessions to the Taranaki County Council, which protested against tho heavy -charge for valuation; ■ Invercargill; Monday. In the Supreme Court to-day, Mr Justice Pennefather gave judgment in a case of J. Meiklo v. Samuel Levy, a claim for .£IOOO damages for breach of contract, arrest and imprisonment. Levy had obtained judgment against Meikle for debt, and issued a judgment summons. .The hearing of the Case came on in the absence of the plaintiff, who had written postponing-the matter. A'warrant for committal, was issued, and the plaintiff waat imprisoned.' His .Honor held that the imprisonment was the result of an official act, and that the order must be set aside before damages could be recovered.
