He is the youngest general in the army—being only 47. General do Trentinian obtained his first experience in Africa in 1874. He began young , and was decorated after the battle of Marchenoir, when he was but 19. In 1894 he was chief commander of the army in Senegal, and about a year later was made Governor of the French Soudan.
