The total number of passengers landed here was 126. Captain Grant reports seeing H.M.9. Torch off Cape Egmont steaming in a southerly direction. Tho loading operations at tho Wanganui roadstead in connection with the Star of England were expected to bo completed last evening. The Hula, who has been tendering tho big steamer, is duo hero to-day. The barque Rossdhu. bound from Sharpness to Melbourne, was noticed by the authorities at Hplis Point, Victoria, on the Cth Instant, standing on her right course, when suddenly (at 11 a.m.) she turned into Lome, and stood right on. She then appeared to recognise her mistake, as she commenced to drift shoreward inside thereof two miles from Point Gray. The lighthouse-keeper sent up two rockets, but they were apparently not noticed, wheu the vessel signalled, '* Where Is Melbourne ?** Tho keeper signalled tho course, and with some difficulty tho barque extracted herself from her perilous position, and continued on her way to the port PhUUo Heads. The tender of the Melbourne Steamship Company, Limited, has been accepted for raising tho sunken steamer Manawatu, belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company. The Manawatu will bo taken direct into the Williamstown floating dock, when on estimate of tho damage she has sustained will bo Clansman, Captain Cooper, arrived nt Kaipara from Wellington on Monday, after a 13 days’ passage. The alterations to the steamer Wavorloy, of tho Anchor Line, wVch have been taking place at Nelson since the beginning of January, aro nearly completed, and the almost now vessel is to undergo a trial this week before being put into commission again. People will more readily grasp tho amount of work entailed in these alterations when it is explained that tho steamer has been lengthened by 1C Iccfc, the additional space being all for cargocarrying purposes. Tho rest of tho steamer is practically unchanged, but tho additionallength is said to improve her appearance for tho better. Captain Vickerman Is to have command of the Wavcrley.es formerly. Tho Kennedy ranged alongside tho Italian ship Concordia yesterday, and received 500 cases of kerosene for Nelson and West Coast ports. We aro authorised to contradict the report that the Kawatiri has been making water since her arrival in port. Tho injured shaft is expected to be repaired in time for the steamer to leave foe Westport on Friday. Insurances cannot be effected on vessels bound from Newcastle to Manila.
