BEPBEEBS’ ASSOCIATION. At a meeting of the Referees’ Association, held at the Ttooadoro last evening', Mr G. Faohe in the ohair, the following referees were drawn for Saturday’s matches : —Athletio v. Poneke, No. 1, Petone, Mr Gibson ; Melrose v. Wellington, Athletic Park, Mr Q. N. Goldie; Oriental v. Petone, Athletic Park, Mr G. Faohe- Juniors -Poneke v. Wellington College Old Boys, Mr A, T. King: St. Patrick’s College y. Oriental, Mr O’Gennell ; Petone y. Melrose, Dr Perry, i bird-class—Oriental v. Melrose, Mr W. T. Lewis; Eetque y. Kia Ora, Mr Hood. A general discussion took place on the subject of rough play and the best methods to adopt for guarding against anything like a continuance of this, objectionable feature. Several of the members were strongly of opinion that the present style of wing play was responsible for a great deal of unnecessary obstruction and roughness, and that referees were not strict enough in dealing with players in this position. It was eventually res lived that in fntnre any player observed by the referee to be indulging in wilfully rough play should bo ordered off the field without a caution.
