SUSPICIOUS DEATH AT THE THAMES.

Bg Telegraph.—Press Association. Thames, January 22. An inquest was commenced yesterday afternoon before Mr A. Bruce, Coroner, touching the death of Ellen Casey, a single woman, aged 32, who died on the 19th inst. The evidence of Dis Callan and Bond, who made the post-mortem examination, showed that death resulted from peritonitis, the result of a recent miscarriage. Dr Callan, who attended the deceased prior to her death, stated that the deceased told him she had taken medicine obtained from a chemist. It is stated that she went to Auckland about a fortnight ago, and it is possible that an illegal operation was performed on her there. After hearing the evidence of the medical men, the inquest was adjourned until Wednesday evening, in order to obtain further evidence from Auckland.
