Mr Byrnes, Attorney-General, has returned from his visit to England. He says that while the Colonial Office and a number of leading men favour Federation, a few acute minds hold the opinion that Federation;* with the constitution of an Australian Court of Appeal, except in matters of intestate disputes, is hot wise. It looks to them like the first step, towards cutting the painter. ■
