A YANKEE REPORTER'S ROMANCE.

BY GABLE.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. — Copyright. Received January 10, 9.53 p.m. Melbourne, January 10.

The Argus explains the romance of a Maori princess exploited by the New Tori: Herald in January of last year. The story purported to he the result of an interview with a Melbourne resident named Maofarlauo, who visited New Zealand on his way to England. The latter says that when a reporter of the Herald interviewed him in New York he merely showed him a number of Maori photographs, alluding to one as that of a Maori princess. The reporter borrowed the photograph and built his romance on it, appropriately enough remarking to Macfarlane that everytmng with 80 per cent, or less of truth in it was good enough for this purpose.
