While we would not reflect upon the veracity of onr American cousins, we must in.all conscience, and in justice to ourselves and readers, accept many of these etatements with a grain or two of allowance, even if we credit their incongruity to inaoourtaoy, of cables or typographical errors. -When .we receive a startling statement, however, of facts occurring, or a discovery made, in Australia, verified by one of our own countrymen of professional and social-standing, wo have no hesitancy in accepting it, as P true.’ 1 The latest and one of tho most interesting letters from a prominent and well-known Australian, - Mr X McDonald, the well-known artist arid sketcher, we know represents the truth, arid up of, personal interest to. all. He writes from Universal Chambers, 325 Collins St., Melbourne, 19/7/97: “ About fourteen years ago, when on a visit to my father's home in Otago, N.!5,, I learned that a neighbouring farmer’s wife was seriously ill with Bright’s disease, and that /jhfro was little hope of her recovery.
