The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report on the produce markets for the week ending 2znd October, as follows; — Wool. —The shearing is somewhat late this season, and so far none of the new clip is available. Advices from the country arc, however, favourable, and wo anticipate an excellent out-turn. The wool will, wo think, bo found light In condition and well grown, and in view of the favourable prospects reported from London should sell well. The Australian sales were also strong, and altogether the prospects of good prices bf*ing obtained at our local sales, which open on the 12th prox., are favourable. Wo would strongly advise our friends to send their wool into auction in preference to selling privately, as they will then bo sure of obtaining top market value. Buyers who go from station to station cannot bo expected to pay bo much as those who attend the saleroom only, and we are satisfied that best results will be obtained by those who sell under the hammer. . , .. Sheepskins.—Our next sale will bo held on the 23th instant, and wo expect then to offer an exceptionally heavy catalogue. Already we have over 2000 skins in store, and by the date named wo expect to offer buyers over 8000. As usual at this time of year the quality will bo excellent, the majority being prime well-woolled and of good felt. Wo anticipate very keen competition. Tallow, —The English market Ims advanced 3a per cwt. sinco last report, btit locally the demand Is slid slack. Good mixed butcher a is worth from 13a to 18s Gd per cwt. Hides.—The outside demand continues very strong, and wo have no difficulty in placing all coming forward at full rates. We quote—Bruno ox up to 4£d ; medium, 4d ; good cow, 8&d ; medium, 2fcd up to aid per lb. , „ Oats.—These are still very firm m the South. The local demand during the week has boon steady, and as slocks held arc now light wo expect to see better prices obtaining before long. Wo quote— iruao short feed, 2s Gd to 2s 7d, sacks in, ex store. Fowl Wheat.—There has been rather better demand since our last report, and several fair-sized lines have changed hands at an advance on prices lately ruling - : Wo quote good whole at 8s lOd to 4s, sacks extra, ex store. , , , Chaff.—Local stocks are almost entirely depleted, and wo have numerous enquiries, which are difficult to lill at late rates. The visible supply in the South Island is limited, and wo think buyers will have a difficulty in filling their requirements until the new . crop is available. We quote prime heavy, 80s to 85a, sacks extra, ex store. Potatoes.—Market glutted. Good picked tabic Dorwents are quoted up to 00s, sacks in, ex store. Fungus. Market strong.
