SUDDEN DEATH ON THE KAHU.
Special to the New Zealand Times. Na pi eh, October 21. An .elderly man named John Cooper, temporarily employed ns boatswain of the Kabo, died suddenly on board that steamer at tbo fcpit this morning. He had been complaining for some days past of constipation and internal pains, bat he appeared to bs in bis usual health early this morning. At about 9.15 he was teen to enter ore of the conveniences on board,: and about a quarter of an hour later bo was found there by the steward, lifeless. A doctor was tummoned, and judging from what ho was told as to Cooper’s previous complaints and the condition of the b-jdy, ho expressed the opinion that death had resulted from failure of the heart’s action, probably caused by iconstipition and attendant disorders. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony at an inquest held subsequently. The deceased, who was abont 55 years of age, leaves a widow and four or five children, resident in Adelaide road, 'Wellington. Ae the Kahn will hare to work the coastal ports on her way south, the owners of the steamer, Messrs Kichardson and Co , have decided to send the body to Wellington by rail to-morrow.
