The Mftblnapaa brings down 0070 boxes of butter from New Plymouth and GOO from Onehunga on the present trip. The bulk Jubilee broke away from her moorings at about 7 o'clock last evening and drifted nearly on to Point Jerningham before she could be brought up. As far as wo ore able to ascertain no steamer wont to her assistance. 7 A small barque, standing east, passed Farewell Spit at 10.35 a.m. yesterday. She was too far out to be signalled. The Consul General of Douches du Rhone, at its meeting on the 25th August, voted in favour of Marseilles being made a free port. Last month all the plant and business connections of the North German Lloyd Company at Nordenham were transferred to Bremerhaven, the Now Kaiser Harbour at that port having been completed. The eighth International Shipping Congress will meet at Brussels in the second half of the month of July next year. Questions relating to both oversea and internal navigation will be submitted to it. The Aorangi, from Vancouver via Honolulu, Suva and Wellington, arrived at Sydney yesterday morning. The Takapuna arrived from Onebunga and Now Plymouth at 4 yesterday morning and left at 1.23 in the afternoon for Picton and Nelson.
The Queen of the South loft for Poxton at 11.40 a.m. yesterday. Tbo Huia, which left for Wanganui on Tuesday evening, arrived back at 8 a.m. yesterday, Captain Crawford deeming it inadvisable to face the heavy sea round Terawbitl. She left again last night. The Penguin, which has been laid up here for some time, goes into commission again on Saturday, leaving for Lyttelton at 11 p.m. All the cabins ami alleyways have been ro-painted and decorated, and the saloon has been fitted with handsome n*>w light-varnished revolving chairs. Her engines have been lifted bodily out and exhaustively overhauled, and the funnel lengthened by Oft. Up above a new captain’s bridge and steering bouse have boon built. While on the slip she was thoroughly cleaned and painted below the waterline. In (act, wherever-you go on this favourite steamer there seems an air of '* newness.’’ Mr Daniels superintended tbo work, and well he did it. The Walkaro arrived from Sydney direct at 4.25 yesterday afternoon. The To Anaa arrived from South at 3.45 yesterday afternoon. Captain Bornecb reports a bowling gale abend during the trip. She brings 72 tons of genera] cargo. The Parcora arrived at 11 a.m. yesterday morning from Groyraouth, and was busy all day transhipping coal into the Matauro. Mr Ferguson, chief engineer of the steamer Te Anau, has been appointed chief engineer of the Kotomahana. He will bo succeeded as chief on the To Anau by Mr Grant, promoted from the position of second engineer. Mr Salter, late second engineer of the Oreti, takes the similar place on the Te Anau, in succession to Mr Grant
The Brunner arrived at 9.20 last evening from Greymouth. She experienced fine weather as far as Stephen Island, whan a heavy nor’-west gale was encountered, which lasted up to arrival. She commenced discharging her coal at midnight. The Brunner loaves for Auckland via Nanler, Gisborne and bays to-night, in place of the Bingadeo, which receives an overhaul. The Te Anau shipped 14 head of cattle at the Kailway Wharf before leaving yesterday afternoon.
