- Two young dukes are at present doing military service in the French army. The fashion of decorating the head when n the water is very general abroad. An Italian has invented a rifle by which 80 shots can be fired in a minute without the weapon being removed from the shoulder.
A Frenchman was recently attacked by a discharged waiter, who threw a bottle of vitriol at his face. The bottle broke_ on the pipe the Frenchman was smoking, sending the greater part of its contents into the face of his assailant, who was terribly burned. The paper for printing Bank of England notes is damped with water in the exhausted receiver of an air-pump. The ink used in the plate printing is made of Frankford black, which is composed of the charcoal of the tendrils and husks of the German grape, ground with linseedoil.
