The divorced husband of Mrs Langtry, who was recently found wandering aimlessly on a railway line and placed in the Chester Lunatic Asylum, has died there. A 100yds swimming match has been arranged to take place on the 27th between Derbyshire and Hellings. Tyers was invited to take part in it, but declined.
The Canadian per cent, loan of .£2,000,000 for the extension of railways to the mining districts and the deepening of the canals along the river St. Lawrence has been successfully floated. The average price realised was .£9l 10s sd, or 10s 5d above the minimum fixed by the Government.
News from the Gold Coast states that the Government troops of the Congo Free State have defeated the mutineers of the expedition commanded by Baron Dhanis, State Inspector of the Congo Free State. There were 400 mutineers killed. Calcutta, October 16.
