Lord Londonderry wrote to the Northern Union of the Conservative Association which is sitting at • Newcastle, attacking the injustice of the Workmen’s Compensation Bill, and complaining that Conservative principles were being subordinated to Mr J. Chamberlain, and that a number of Conservatives disapproved of that gentleman’s Eadioal Home polities, while admiring his Imperialism. The Association re-elected Lord Londonderry president, and endorsed his views. . A hope was expressed that Sir Wilfrid Lauxier’s policy would cement a closer commercial union of the Empire. A resolution of confidence: in Lord Salisbury was also carried.
