FLOODS IN THE NORTH.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, October 16. News from the Waikato shows that heavy floods have occurred in the Waipa river and its tributaries, as well as in the Waikato. All the lower lands near the Waipa river bank at Pirangia (Alexandra) and Whatawhata, and other places along the river, were under water yesterday, and the bridges, culverts and embankments are expected to. suffer considerably., The Waipa bridge at Pirangia was submerged yesterday, and residents on the west side of the river were completely out off from the township. The Mangapiko bridge was also, completely under water. No crops have yet been planted on the terrace of the river ' above ■“Whatawhata, so that the farmers will not suffer much. The Thames Valley also suffered by the floods.
