Tho Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve to ho .£20,921,000 (£059,000 less than last week), the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 43 21 per cent. At the wool sales just closed, 160,000 bales were offered, of which 95,000 were sold for Home consumption, 63,000 for the Continent, and 2000 for America, while 13,000 bales, including 7000 not offered, were held over. The Bradford tops market is quiet.

GOLD VERSUS SILVER. Received October 17, 5.25 p.m. Ottawa, .October 16. The Canadian bankers have protested against interference with the gold standard.
