HAWERA NOTES.
Special to the New Zealand Times. October 13. The Hawera School scandal is still as far from settlement so far as the Education Board is concerned as when it was first talked of. A difficulty has now arisen as to payment for transcribing the shorthand notes taken at the preliminary enquiry by the School Committee. The Education Board seeks to fasten the responsibility for payment upon Mr Riddifqrd, a delegate appointed (with our many times . Mayor, but now ex-Mayor, Mr Major) at a meeting to express public feeling to the Board. The Minister for Education should certainly step in and ascertain the truth or otherwise of the matter. Until a statement was lately published of the quantity of beet and pork exported from Waitara, very few outside of those directly interested had any idea of the good, the works were doing in helping farmers. The Company is increasing its capital, and the management being good, the Company’s operations will be further extended. Thanks to the moist weather during the past three weeks a flush of feed has grown, and shortness of pastures will be, a thing of the past until winter comes again, overstocking and drought excepted.
