MR SLIGO RETURNED, By Telegraph.—Press Association. -Dunedin, October 13, A good deal of interest was taken in the election for the city seat, made vacaut by the death of Mr H. 8. Fish, but everything * passed, off very quietly. A good many vehicles were in use, mostly in the interests . of Mr Gourley, who is a livery stablekeeper. , Early in the day it became evident that (the real struggle was between Messrs Sligo (Conservative) and Gourley ? (Liberal). The returns, with tho exception 'of two. came to hand de-. spite the heavy polling, 11,195 out of 14,811 having recorded their , votes. i At 9.10 p.m. the Returning Officer announced the numbers as follows : Alexander Sligo ..." ... 5045 Hugh Gourley ... ... 4065 . W. Hutchison ... ... 2030 Majority for Mr Sligo 980 ! There were six seamen’s votes, of which : five' were informal; :r The other was for Mr . Siigo., The informal votes numbered 55.
