The local agents are informed that the Mataura left Hobart at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She should arrive hero on Sunday next. The Kahu arrived at B.ID last evening from tho Chatham Islands and Lyttelton, and reports a very strong nor’-west gale from Lyttelton, with a heavy aD The Wttkntu left lost evening for Lyttelton via Kaikoura and Cheviot. Mr Westwood, chief engineer of the Mawhera : Mr Young, third engineer of the Poheroa ; and Mr Shore, chief officer of the Wainui, were passengers by the Rotorua for South yesterday. At Dunedin they will learn their new berths. The Miowera arrived at Vancouver from Sydney via Wellington, Suva and Honolulu on the Bta mst., a day before her time-table date. Tho Queen of tho South went on the patent sup yesterday afternoon to receivo a cleaning. She is advertised to sail for Poston to-morrow. The Herald, which arrived from the South yester- . day morning, brought up 138 tons of praluce for this port, and landed 60 tons for New Plymouth, the latter place being unworkable ou account of the nor'-west gale now prevailing. The Aorangl, from Vancouver via Honolulu and Suva, is due to-day, and is advertised to leave for Sydney shortly after her arrival. The flags of the shipping; in port yesterday were at half-mast, as a mark of respect to Miss MoKcnaie, late stewardess on the Wakatu. The bad weather all over New Zealand is playing havoc with the shipping time-tables. The Moaand Oreti, for the West Coast, are detained at Wanganui, and the Richmond at .Westport. The latter vessel hoped to get away last night at 10. The Herald abandoned her trip to New Plymouth, and left direct for Grcymouth at midnight. The Wairoa’a departure has been postponed until today. The Rimufcako, from London, left Capetown for Hobart and Wellington on Monday last. The Tolune, which arrived at the Bluff from Melbourne via Hobart yesterday, brought an English mall.
The Waikare arrived in Sydney yesterday from Wellington. • All the shipping offices will be closed to-day on account of the holiday. The fine ship Soukar is to os p it upon tho berth at Gisborne during the coming wool season by tho Shaw, Savill and Albion Company. Instead of going to AucKland'the Union Company’s steamer Rakunoa proceeds to Sydney from Fiji. Messrs 0. and W. Bailey, of Auckland, have received orders to build a soboonor lor the Island trade for Mr A B. McDonald.
